Zero-sum view on language ruins language reform
Under the disguise of ‘the reunion of spoken and written language’ people confine the written language, reflecting the idea that we must sacrifice or abolish one feature for another.
Jang Tayyem resists ‘the reunion of national language’ and Esperanto with a ‘return to dialects’ (Peng, 2008). The language community for Jang is not zero-sum.
One book whose title is not convenient to be written moves beyond zero-sum view.
