Infrequent questions on
Divpolis
This page is under construction.
Development
From what Divpolis is
influenced?
Muqliong Gang, Alpha City, Phesoca (not
listed in order).
Phesoca? Show me the
subway.
Divpolis is far less populated than Phesoca. Still, in convenience of
illustrations and stories, a tentative intercity express will include
multiple points.
Is there a map?
We do not know the exact location or surroundings of any of the
places. Rather than prescribing all the geographic relations, I prefer
to infer from canonical works when they are adequate. The moment you
write ‘across Dart Street John saw an old-looking pub’, it becomes one
of the competing clues.
Divpolis is a cross-section of thoughts, not a Skylines game
save.
Characters
Are the characters
based on real people?
Most of the time, no.
Are
sinicized names a symbol of colonialism?
Contrary to South Asian and African communities exerted to
Europeanize names (as per Guardian, Muhammads are renamed Moses!),
Divpolis is dominated by Eastern Min and Shidinn. Whereas, only
adequately diverse and thoughtful sinicization is indisputably free from
colonialism. If the goal cannot be achieved, I will remove the
constraint.
What do you mean by
‘particle assonance’?
Euphemism for gender. Go ahead.
Seriously, it is an inserted parameter for characters to cope with
languages that require a distinction. It will affect minimally on
illustrations, and never on other aspects. (It can be actually contrary
to personality of the relevant character even in religious texts.)
Here I try to answer possible questions including: Are your stories
confined to the style/manner of a certain gender? Are you discouraging
profession or sentiments through …? Is it a work of BL/yaoi genre? (I
am heard of this question.)
The answer: I do not want to be a jerk.
Is Divpolis a
Disney-like orphan world?
I fear myself manipulate the characters‘ relation, for it is
their sake, not mine. However, by asserting this I assume
people are essentially alone. This might be a problem, and I have not
found a easy solution.
Outline
What is the population?
Not determined. (see the next question)
Is
Divpolis too unpopulated to uphold a society with current
technology?
I have no idea whether scale is truly a party-pooper for libertarian
havens (though Divpolis is not one). One
question on Stack Exchange exemplified semiconductor and
pharmaceutical industry.
One challenge even more salient than staffing big tech is that the
tiny society will drive the stories tedious and repetitive as in
Friends, and the community hyper-conservative and concealed.
(Possibly as a remedy the volatility of Divpolis will be
exaggerated.)
Curiosity
Why the name?
The polis of diva. Originally referring to ‘Sinicized German’, but
largely abolished.
How did the idea emerge?
Divpolis was designed for Shidinn Timeline, purely as a
ultra-multilingual community at first. Before Shidinn Timeline I came up
with something including a fictional future called I&E, which is
responsible for organizations in Divpolis, particularly Contrail.
